Since I’ve started training clients, before someone starts working with me, I always ask them a few simple questions. One of which is, “How do you know if I have done my job and you have had a great session?”
1. It was hard and I sweat a lot
2. I was really sore the next day
2. I was really sore the next day
I will quickly will then reply, “That’s great. I have a special program for you then and it won’t even cost you anything. Instead of coming to your next workout here, come to my house and my wife is going to give you a list of stuff to do. You can mulch, pull weeds, clean out my garage, scrub the deck and mow the lawn. It’s going to be awesome. You’re going to definitely sweat a lot and be very sore for days!”
The looks I get after that are priceless…
Unfortunately the fitness industry has set the bar very low for people. Set your expectations higher for what you should get out of your training program. If you just want to work hard, sweat a lot and be sore, go dig a ditch, at least you will have a hole to show for it.
