Cold exposure to heat up your metabolism
Your body is an adaptive organism that is always fighting to maintain what is called homeostasis, or middle ground. For example, if it is hot outside, you will begin to sweat to cool down. The inverse is also true that when it is cold, we begin to shiver to get warm. What research has also found is that brief and controlled exposure to extreme cold can help boost metabolism. There a few ways I suggest doing this, from least to most extreme:
1. Place an ice pack or a bag of frozen peas on the back of your neck at night while watching TV for 10-20 minutes. They actually make ice packs specific to wrap around your neck for convenience that can be found at most pharmacies
2. When taking a shower, intermittently alternate between warm/hot water to ice cold for 10-30 seconds each
3. Sit in a bath tub of cold water with ice (Not for the faint of heart!)
