Defending the FMS….Again (Copy) (Copy)

What makes One Human Performance’s programs unique is our attention to detail and the recognizing the individuality of each of our clients. We do this through an integrated method of addressing their distinct fitness, lifestyle and nutrition needs based on what is called a “Triad of Health”. The concept of the Triad is borrowed from the work of Dr. Goodheart, the forefather of Applied Kinesiology (AK). Although we do not apply the system using the same methods as AK, we embraced the mindset of using the 3 sides of an individual to apply a holistic model.

Every year millions of people set out to improve their health and well-being by engaging in a diet and exercise routine. Unfortunately, many of these individuals will fail in their pursuits. They commonly fall prey to false marketing and “magic bullet” programs, rather than taking a more comprehensive approach to success.

The “Triad of Health” is a system used to assess and treat each individual’s needs by dividing them into 3 main categories:

Chemical: The internal physiology of the body. An individual’s chemistry is affected most by their nutrition.

Mental: The mind and body are connected in many ways, whether it be spiritual or simply through reflexes and habits.

Structural: Muscles, joints, bones, etc. all fall in this category and is influenced greatly by movement / exercise (or lack of it).

If you do not look, feel or perform the way you would like, you need to eliminate whatever weak links along the Triad that are holding you back. By taking a methodical approach of replacing each of these weak links with a new habit or strength, you are on your way to being your absolute best!!!

What is your Vitality Score???

To get a glimpse into an individual’s current state of health and wellness we created our Vitality score sheet which is a self-assessment using the Triad system. The way it works is you grade yourself on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the best. 1 the worst) in 9 subcategories of each Triad side. You then will total up each section, as well as a Grand Total.

The key is that you be completely honest with yourself in answering and give your gut instinct score. We always say that if you have to think more than 10 seconds about a score you have thought too much!

Total Vitality score:

This is a grade of your overall current state of health and wellness. Scores breakdown roughly as follows:

108-135 – Excellent

81-107 – Good

54-80 – Fair

53 or less – Poor

Section scores:

Your subtotal scores for each category of Chemical, Mental and Structural can range from 9-45 and will tell the tale of where your weakest links may exist. Remember that there are things we can control and things we can not. In the Structural section I would love to be taller, but unfortunately I cannot control that.

If you weakest section is…

Structural – Then you need to look into your movement or lack thereof and get involved in a sound exercise program. I would highly recommend doing some type of movement evaluation before getting started, such as the Functional Movement Screen to see where some of your specific weak links may be.

Chemical – The biggest outside factor controlling our inner physiology is our nutrition. Food intolerances, poor blood sugar management, undereating/overeating and improper meal timing are just some of the more common elements that will weaken someone in this area.

Mental – Could you possibly be sabotaging yourself with negative thought and belief patterns? We are influenced by the books we read, TV we watch, our upbringing, the people we associate with and more. Is your environment healthy and supportive of your efforts for improvement?

Take the test below and see what you score. Then take appropriate action based on that score and re-assess in 30 days and see how you improve. You may be surprised to see scores on other sides of the Triad improve without even working on them!
