The “Diagnosis Label” and Low Back Pain

Everyday I encounter someone who tells me they have low back pain because they have a disc herniation, spinal stenosis or some other scary sounding diagnosis that was given to them based on an MRI or X-ray.

Truth is, research shows upwards of 90% of all adults over 35 have some sort of spinal abnormality or dysfunction. So if these diagnosis are the source of …the back pain, why aren’t 9 out of 10 people walking around hunched over in pain???

The reality is that many of these diagnosis are asymptomatic, meaning that they have nothing or little to do with the real cause of the pain which is actually more likely due to wear and tear from poor movement caused by a lack of mobility and/or stability.
